THINGS TO TELL YOUR WEDDING DJ TO MAKE THEIR JOB EASY
While it is true that your wedding DJ can make or break your wedding, wedding DJs are not magicians. They would have to be given certain instructions regarding the wedding day, just like any other vendor. The choice of music you have at your wedding can differ dramatically from one person to another.
This post should be helpful in making the most of the opportunity. Sometimes, couples don’t have many options regarding vendors (because of the location or budget), but that doesn’t mean that your wedding has to be a day of bad music. Here is a list of things you should tell your DJ to make to make sure that your wedding flows seamlessly and everyone has a good time:
KEY SONGS- WHEN TO PLAY THEM AND FOR HOW LONG
The best DJs in the business will provide you with a well laid out form for all this. Even if your DJ doesn’t, make a list of all the songs that will be played at important moments like the introduction, father-daughter dance, and the main ceremony. Specify what event comes after which, if you want announcements and how long should the songs play for.
PRONUNCIATION
Yes, I know you have given them your names in written, but just to be safe, and avoid the risk of having any awkward situations, make sure you give them the phonetic spelling of everyone’s names.
REQUEST POLICY
Decide and communicate this in clear words. If you don’t want your DJ to take requests, they will try to tell everyone that they don’t have the requested songs, but if someone is persistent, they would have to tell them that the bride or groom has demanded a no request policy.
GIVE THEM YOUR ‘DO NOT PLAY’ LIST
This is much, much more important than your playlist. As good as it is trying to accommodate requests from your guests to keep them engaged, at the end, it is YOUR wedding. So, don’t be hesitant to put down a list of what songs you hate and should absolutely not be played at any time during the wedding. The DJ can deny requests for those songs by simply saying they don’t have those songs.
VOLUME, LANGUAGE AND MC PREFERENCES
As mentioned earlier, the DJ is going to be responsible for the seamless flow of the wedding. You don’t want this person to say something that people might find offensive or play something suggestive. Tell them clearly what is off limits and what is not, and if you love/hate loud music, let them know!
It is also a good idea to let them know if you want a lot of MC chatter aside from the introductions.
